CHRIS LOMAS, of Mount Road, Brixham, writes:
Instead of the marvellous display of formation aerobatic flying by the Red Arrows that millions throughout the world have enjoyed over the years, they were limited to a flypast during the Dartmouth Regatta.
All over the country air shows are being cancelled
or curtailed because of the Government’s knee-jerk reaction to the recent Hawker Hunter accident. This is causing disappointment to thousands and serious financial loss to show organisers.
The air show season is almost over and a more sensible course would have been to announce a review of the safety rules, with any changes taking effect next spring.
The UK has an excellent record of air show safety, but low-level flying always has an element of danger. Perhaps there are lessons to be learnt, but it would be sad to see air shows limited to over the water. All the inland shows would disappear, including the original and still the best in the world, Farnborough.
