Flags have been raised in Dartmouth Community Garden to celebrate the awards picked up for the town’s green spaces.

This year Dartmouth Green Partnerships has been awarded a Pennant Gold Award from the Royal Horticultural Society for managing the Dartmouth Community Garden. They also scooped a Green Flag Community Award for the Community Garden and their other green-fingered work around Dartmouth.

Trustees and members of the group had a get together, joined by Devon County and South Hams District Cllrs, at the community garden last week to raise the two flags and celebrate their achievements.

Earlier this year, in his Royal Horticultural Society South West in Bloom report, pennant judge Tony Moore said: “Dartmouth Green Partnerships is a progressive, well organised and highly motivated group dedicated to making Dartmouth an attractive and sustainable environment for both residents and visitors.”

The Green Flag Award is given to parks and green spaces in the UK from Keep Britain Tidy.

When Green Flag judge Richard Taylor visited Dartmouth Community Garden in the summer he said: “The whole garden area is well maintained by experienced and knowledgeable volunteers who know their plants and how they should be maintained. The group has created a horticultural haven which is admired and appreciated by locals and visitors.”
