THE town was full of festive cheer on Saturday for the fourth Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas event.

A large number of visitors flooded Fore Street and enjoyed hilarious and impressive shows from street entertainers, wonderful performances from local musicians, festive food and an array of stalls with unique gifts to buy.

The road was pedestrianised all day so that visitors could wander freely and take in everything the event had to offer.

No less than 53 stalls filled the street, starting from outside Peacocks and ending by the top near the car park.

There were many items for sale from scarves, items for the home, trinkets and toys to sweet treats, pies and burgers.

Many of the Fore Street shops were also offering special, one-off promotions and deals on the day.

More than fifty children between the ages of two and eight visited Santa's grotto at Norsworthy Photography's Studio 92 to meet Santa and have their photo taken with him.

Children also had the chance to take away some sweets and a present of their choice from a tube of bubbles, crayons, pencils or a glitter ball.

There was something for everyone to enjoy on the day with a wide variety of entertainment and activities, including wreath-making for children in Harbour House and crafts in St Edmunds Church.

The market hall held many stalls with tombolas and items for sale from hand-knitted baby clothes to hand crafted table decorations.

Later in the day ladies' singing group Panache and men's group Kingsmen performed in the hall and treated audiences with their talented vocals.

Other musical performances throughout the day included the lively samba band Crooked Tempo, Michael Campari and 2Tonic, as well as The Storm, Jack Handsely, The Recolections, Danny and Lee and Ben Malley, all of whom are from Ktown Acoustics.

The street entertainment proved to be very popular with all ages, with the funny Gareth Jones unravelling himself from cling film in record time and Matt B performing humorous routines, which included juggling knives over members of the audience and drinking a pint of beer, which was rested on his head, while juggling flaming torches.

Little Miss Christmas and elf, Whizzbang, young ukulele players and magician Alan Dark also entertained visitors throughout the day.

The day drew to a close with an atmospheric singing of Christmas carols around the Christmas tree at 6pm.

Although many people were expecting free parking, it didn't deter visitors on the day.
