Having bought my Dart Music Festival programme, I, and more than a few others, are bitterly disappointed that the festival committee this year decided to delight the musical tastes of the masses and not the few who only like classical music.
I and my friends, who for 21 years have supported the festival, were more than disappointed that there was a lack of classical concerts and recitals – just four on the Friday, when we were either at work or doing our charity work.
On the Saturday, there was one in the afternoon.
As a group of choristers and classically trained musicians, we usually come from Brixham on the early bus and enjoy breakfast at Cafe Alf Resco before spending the whole day going from one venue to another, hearing and enjoying classical music.
Now, with only one to attend on the Saturday at 1.30pm, there was little point in the eight of us coming for the day, usually arriving for breakfast at 9am, as jazz, rock and other genres are not to our taste.
On the Sunday, we are all in church choirs.
The music festival has lost the considerable amount of money we would usually donate via collection buckets throughout the day.
Shame on the Dart Music Festival.
