Dartmouth plays host to an exciting international musical venture when the Meridianum Ensemble visits the Flavel Arts Centre on the afternoon of Sunday, April 8, with a show for all the family.

Nationally acclaimed local musicians have joined forces with friends from Portugal and Morocco to celebrate musical styles from around the world. Their music features a host of unusual instruments from hurdy-gurdy, santur and oud to cittern, bagpipes, nyckelharpa and percussion.

During the interval the audience will be invited to get up close to these fascinating gadgets.

Well-known local musicians Steve Tyler, Katy Marchant, Griselda Sanderson, Louis Bingham and Ricardo de Noronha are joined by Moroccan oud player Soufian Siahi and from Portugal, visiting artist Nuno Silva on santur.

A spokesman for the Flavel said: “So come along to the Flavel for a whirlwind journey from Mediaeval Europe to North Africa, Scandinavia and beyond.”
