FORMER Dartmouth Chamber of Trade chairman Jan Henshall is facing legal action from the town council – more than eight months after she shut up shop.

Ms Henshall has received a county court claim for £810 for unpaid rent on her business, The Gem Shop, which she ran in the Old Market for 20 years before retiring last June.

Her former landlord, Dartmouth Town Council is taking legal action against Ms Henshall, a Kingswear parish councillor, for outstanding rent during her final quarter's trading.

But she maintains the claim is unfair, as she lost income when a market stall was placed outside her shop during the final days of her closing down sale.
