We consider ourselves very fortunate to have been in the audience at The Flavel, as the Dartmouth Players pulled off something rather special, with their production of the brilliant play by Ronald Harwood.
The Dresser is essentially a tragic tale of a waining actor- wanager and his devoted Dresser, in a traditional repertory company, struggling as the Second World War comes to a close.
In the title role was Graham Mewis, a performance that was quite simply a tour-de-force. Sadly, it seems it was also his swansong, after 10 years in the Players.
The remaining cast were professional and quite classy, in certain cases, such as Shona Radcliffe.
The production was expertly staged with excellent attention to detail and represented a thoroughly enjoyable evening’s entertainment, without having to travel very far.
It’s just a pity that the size of the audience didn’t match the expertise on stage.
So to all you Flavel supporters, I’m afraid you missed another good one from the Dartmouth Players.
