Dozens of young footballers have been kicking off for a seven-a-side finals tournament.

The tournament was the culmination of a local primary school league involving Stoke Fleming, Dartmouth Academy, Blackawton, Kingswear, East Allington and St John's primary schools.

The teams gathered to compete against each other for the final time in the league this season and then entered a final play-off to determine the overall winners.

There were several close games on the day but in a tense grand final, Blackawton edged out East Allington to take this year's trophy.

A school spokesman said: 'It was an amazing afternoon for all the children and many of the adults present on the day commented on the excellent fair play and sportsmanship shown by the teams.

'A special thanks goes to TJD Construction who sponsored this year's finals day.

'A thank you must also go to all the adults whose hard work helped make this event and the whole football league such a rewarding experience for the children.'
