YOUNG cyclists have been gaining new skills to ride with confidence on the roads.

A number of students from Dartmouth Academy completed a four-day cycling proficiency programme.

The riders from Years 5 and 6 took part in the Bikeability scheme – firstly completing a range of activities within the school grounds before venturing out around Cross Parks.

The children were tested on their understanding of road signs and the Highway Code to obtain their level one and two grades.

Finley Wood said: ‘Bikeability was really fun and exciting because we got to ride on the road.’

Brayden Frost said: ‘I enjoyed Bikeability because it taught me how to ride a bike safely on the road.’

Isabelle Tompkins added: ‘I enjoyed Bikeability because it made me feel better about cycling on the road. Now I don’t panic.’

Alicia Willicott said: ‘I can’t wait to ride my bike more at home.’
