A drunken woman attacked four members of her own family in Dartmouth last month.

The assaults were among eight offences of violence in the town investigated by police during November, Insp Andy Tomlinson has revealed.

There were also two burglaries, a shoplifting offence and a drugs raid in which a small amount of cannabis was seized.

In a report to town councillors Insp Tomlinson said there had been 23 offences recorded in the town over November compared with 21 for the same period last year.

They had resulted in two arrests and three 'offenders' dealt with by other means – usually some form of 'restorative justice'.

In one incident a 'female assaulted four members of the family while drunk in the home' said the inspector. That incident was dealt with through restorative justice.

So was a second incident in which juvenile male youngsters – known to each other through school – were involved in an incident of actual bodily harm.

The month also saw a domestic incident of actual bodily harm in which police inquiries are 'ongoing', and an assault in licenced premises in the town, which was also dealt with via restorative justice, and a common assault in which a son attacked his father, though there was insufficient evidence to bring charges.

A laptop was stolen in one of the burglaries and medication was taken from a room in the other, although Insp Tomlinson described it as a 'dubious complaint' and said the complainant was not supporting a police inquiry.

He also said a drug warrant was executed in the town and a small quantity of cannabis seized. One person was warned by police.
