MARY MOORE, of Shady Lane, Stoke Fleming, writes: I was appalled to see the photograph showing a peregrine falcon making a meal of a young seagull, Chronicle, April 17. Is this the picture you would want to explain to your children or grandchildren? Or something you would like to encounter in the park? Seagulls are part of the landscape of the coastal areas of the South Hams. I agree that they can be noisy, messy and sometimes a nuisance, but there must be a more humane way to deal with this matter. Surely the council would be better spending the money on seagull-proof rubbish bags and better education for residents and visitors to ensure that food sources are not readily available. Better still, why not take advice from the RSPB, which must be able to suggest a positive solution?
