I read with interest there is little resistance to the idea of selling Dartmouth's Guildhall.

If it has to go, can I suggest the town council, in support of the local residents, ensures that the resulting redevelopement will provide genuinely affordable housing for local people?

Goodness knows, we need affordable housing, and we don't need an out-of-date, ugly, money-guzzling monster.

Personally, I will be a bit sad to see its demise, as I have a plan that should I ever find myself out of work, I would offer 'Alternative Architecture' walking tours around Dartmouth, showing some of the more disastrous edifices constructed in the town.

The police station and the Guildhall would, of course, be the highlights of the tour, and to remove one or both of those may seriously impact on my future financial stability.

Amazingly, further into the paper is an article regarding the possible twinning of the German town, Markt Goldbach, with Dartmouth.

Looking at the pictures of the local German architecture, it seems they have seen photos of our police station and Guildhall, and have obviously noticed the marked similarity to their own building style.
