Mrs Jill Garnham, of Seymour Drive, Dartmouth writes:
As a supporter of the Townstal Community Hall Association and former trustee, I was asked to chair their annual general meeting which was held last Friday at the community hall.
Despite the publicity given to this meeting, I was saddened and very disappointed that apart from the three committee members and one trustee, Cllr Jonathan Hawkins, there was only one other person present – and she was the wife of one of the committee members.
Where were all the residents of Townstal, the press and local councillors?
If it was not for the incredible amount of work put in by Stephen Smith and the support of his three member committee, the community hall would close. Is that what people of Townstal and Dartmouth want?
A lot of hard work went into getting the hall built and up and running, so where is the support of the local people now?
The association is in danger of going out of existence.
There has been a vacancy for a treasurer and booking clerk for over a year and, as it carries an honorarium of £1,000 per year, I find it hard to understand why there is such apathy among the local residents in coming forward to support their local precious amenity.
If you do not support it, you will lose it!
