PJ NORTON, of Oxford Street, Dartmouth, writes:

What was Devon County Council thinking when it allowed Dartmouth Food Festival to close Spithead for three days?

Did it not occur that the buses – double-deckers – would have to revert to using Victoria Road, just after the switch to College Way having caused such distress and inconvenience to so many residents?

The festival already had the whole of Royal Avenue Gardens and the South Embankment for the best part of a week, as well as the Market Square and car park for the weekend – did the festival really need Spithead?

Also worthy of comment was the sight on Sunday morning of the cones on the river side of North Embankment – no cars or vans to be seen. There were, however, two coaches parked in their usual space, opposite the gardens, having clearly ignored the coach drop-off point provided for them, designed to obviate the need for them to negotiate Fairfax Place.
