Paul Easby, 46, of Holmes Avenue, Plymouth, was arrested on Tuesday October 17 and subsequently charged with theft of jewellery from a shop in Dartmouth.
He appeared before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday October 18 and pleaded guilty.
Easby was sentenced to six weeks jail, suspended for 12 months.
He was also ordered to pay £685 compensation to the victim.
