The South Hams has joined the royal baby celebrations – with a flag flying tribute to the future King.

The Union Flag went up at South Hams Council's Totnes HQ as soon as news of the birth was announced.

It is a tradition for government buildings to fly the national flag on such occasions.

The council's deputy chairman Bill Hitchins said: 'What a joyous occasion for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the nation as a whole.

'We are proud to fly the flag as a way of welcoming our future sovereign to the world.

'We send our warmest congratulations to the Duke and Duchess and hope that one day the young prince will be able to pay a visit to the beautiful South Hams.'

Meanwhile, a holiday park is celebrating the royal birth with a birthday present for every child born in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset on the same day the future king popped into the world – by making them a Royal Woodlands Baby.

Woodlands Leisure Park will be giving each child a lifetime's membership to the popular centre to help celebrate the royal occasion.

Pat Bendall, the 77-year-old creator of the 120-acre leisure park, near Dartmouth, said: 'We are so happy for the royal couple, we felt we had to do something special for all our local babies born on that day.

'Woodlands Family Theme Park is here for everyone to have fun and we hope all those who receive lifetime membership will have a great time enjoying our park. As a mother of seven and grandmother of thirteen, I think all babies are very special and would like them to be a Royal Woodlands Baby and enjoy the park for life.'

All the new proud parents need to do is send Woodlands a copy of the birth certificate, reside in the counties and their pride and joy will receive a special Lifetime Membership to Woodlands Family Theme Park.
