RC DARCEY, of Townstal Pathfields, Dartmouth, writes:

Dartmouth and Kingswear Hospital is now considered no longer up to modern day standards and would require £2.5m to make it fit for purpose. It is expensive to run, with poor access and limited parking. The NHS say keeping it open is no longer an option.

However, we do have the River View Care Centre in Townstal up our sleeve and it would seem logical to base our health services here in future.

The town’s centre of gravity has moved to Townstal and any new building will take place in this area. But we must have sufficient beds; an up-and-running minor injuries unit and X-ray facilities – we can’t be forever dashing off to Totnes.

We must therefore bring pressure to bear on the local Clinical Commission Group to grant us these facilities.

If we leave it until after their consultation period ends in November, it will be too late.

The NHS is, after all, getting their hands on a site worth £1.6m but seems reluctant to guarantee much in return.

I urge you to complete the South Devon and Torbay Clinical Commissioning Group questionnaire at www.commun ityconsultation.co.uk.
