GREEDY landlords have been accused of giving Dartmouth businesses a ‘bah humbug’ of a Christmas.
At least two shops are closing after facing rent reviews and another has an uncertain time ahead after being told it could see its rent almost double next year.
Now many people in the town fear for the trading future of Dartmouth as independent businesses are being squeezed out.
The Dartmouth Trust, which manages a significant portfolio or properties in the town, claims it has to work within constraints imposed on trustees to get the best rents possible.
The charitable trust owns more than 50 properties, many of them valuable sites in the town centre.
