TONY GALE, of Start Bay Park, Strete, writes:

Having spent many a happy hour on the Embankment in Dartmouth, contemplating what could be done, I came up with a proposal to create a parking area immediately south of the Higher Ferry on the North Embankment.

This could be achieved by extending over the river, like the station car park at Kingswear.

This would not aggravate water level at high tide as it would be supported on piles and would also avoid the view of unsightly mud at low tide.

This area of the river drains at low tide, so it is least used by the boating fraternity and therefore would not lead to much loss of amenity.

It could be finished to mirror the Marina Hotel car park which would provide a visually pleasing link.

Based on the Marina Hotel car park, such a place could provide 100 spaces.

Come on councillors, surprise us all, be bold and take a positive view and assess the feasibility. Vibrant coastal towns rely on good car parking.
