A sailor based at the Britannia Royal Naval College has raised over £3,000 by running more than 1,000 miles for charity.
Warrant Officer 1st Class, Damien Holloway ran 1,156 miles last year, raising £3,411.49 for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.
He set himself the challenge in January last year and in under 12 months WO1 Holloway ran two marathons, 12 half marathons, took part in a team 24-hour event and completed over 1,000 miles individually. The challenge finished at BRNC.
Being a keen runner and cyclist, the BRNC sailor has used his hobbies as a means of raising money for charity on a number of occasions.
He is a member of the Resurgam running team and was assisted by three other service personnel and two civilians in raising the money.
The 43-year old said: “My career in the Royal Navy has taught me to never stop challenging myself physically and mentally to see what I can achieve.”
WO1 joined the Royal Navy in 1991 and currently he serves within the Royal Naval Leadership Academy at BRNC where he instructs junior officers.
Last year he was presented with the clasp to his Long Service and Good Conduct medal by the commanding officer at BRNC, Captain Jolyon Woodard.
The Royal Navy and Royal Marines charity is the principal charity of the Royal Navy. It exists to support sailors, marines and their families, for life.
Since 2007, the charity has funded projects and facilities that boost morale for those who serve in the forces.
The charity also distributes millions of pounds annually to other military charities which care for the children, families and veterans of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.
