Anthony Fyson, chairman, Dartmouth Community Bookshop, Above Town, Dartmouth, writes:

Many thanks to Don Collinson, Letters, February 10, for flagging up the need to support the Community Bookshop by buying our shares.

We want the community at large to be involved and this is one way that everyone can be. Another is to buy books from our 12 Higher Street premises.

I should add, by way of correction, that it was the Dartmouth Trust that generously let the shop to us for an initial peppercorn rent.

But Don is quite right to emphasise that the second home owners and visitors played a very important part in sustaining the old Harbour Bookshop. We are actively seeking their support.

Meanwhile, readers may be encouraged to learn that we have just passed the halfway point in our efforts to raise the £50,000 needed to improve our service from adequate to exceptional, so if you have a mind to help please do so.

We sell single shares for £20 as well as multiples for more, and every shareholder gets one vote in the organisation, regardless of the size of their shareholding.

Details of what is involved in investing in a community enterprise and how we aim to use the funds can be obtained from me in confidence or picked up from the shop.
