NATURISTS from Devon were the unlikely stars of the TV show The Voice UK.

Billy Bottle and Martine – a married couple who enjoy being naked and act as life models at a weekly art class in Dartmouth – sent Saturday night's audience into a frenzy.

The twosome hit the stage in a colourful get-up and performed their version of Snap's I Got the Power.

The hyped-up audience was shown a clip of the couple's modelling sessions at Browns Hill Arts with gallery owner Helena Clews – who at one point brought in a tray of cherry Bakewell tarts to cover the couple's modesty.

Abstract painter Helena said the BBC had spent an afternoon filming with models in a life drawing class at the studio in September.

'Billy Bottle and Martine have been coming to the gallery since I opened in March,' she said.

'They are some of my best models, both very relaxed and able to hold impressive poses.

'The filming was quite hilarious. We did get some drawing done but not as much as in our usual session.

'The programme was a complete success and they have been amazed at the interest and reaction from the public.'

Billy and Martine whipped up the crowd with their particular kind of stage presence, with powerful vocals and violin and guitar skills. But none of the judges – whose backs turned to the contestants while they listened – turned around.

After their performance, Sir Tom Jones, Rita Ora, Ricky Wilson and will.i.am got to look at the duo and were seemingly all distraught that they hadn't turned their chairs for the act.

Will.i.am was taken by Billy's outfit – bright orange tights, blue shorts, a pink body warmer and green shoes.

'That's a superstar name,' he told Billy after they were introduced.

He quickly decided to follow the act on the social networking site before hopping up on the stage to take a selfie with the couple from Newton Abbot.

At one point during the performance, Billy reportedly gained 3,000 new Twitter followers in 15 seconds and overnight it had increased to some 12,000 followers.

Among them was pop artist Boy George who tweeted: 'For once this appearance worked. No matter no one turned around. People, it's not just about the voice!'

Requests were made that the couple were given their own show and that they organised a UK?tour.

Bewildered by their appearance and unusual performance, Rita Ora asked: 'You guys... do you like, live outside?'

After revealing they 'sometimes do', and that they live on a farm, the I Will Never Let You Down hitmaker questioned further.

'So, you guys are like, hippies?' she pressed, slightly confused.

She added: 'Do you like to get naked and protest?'

Martine quipped back: 'We just like to go to beaches or clubs.'

Sadly for the double act, they didn't have a single offer to remain in the BBC1 show, despite the interest from the judges after their big reveal.
