BOB HATTERSLEY, of South Town, Dartmouth, writes:
I refer to Mrs H J Newland's comments in your paper of May 25, where she refers to my earlier letter of May 11.
I am amazed on two counts. The first is that she thinks my comments are 'one dimensional' and can only guess at what she means by this.
Refer again to what I wrote and you will see that I mentioned our Dartmouth residents firstly and included visitors afterwards. I used the words 'but mostly to our all important holiday visitors' because they bring in vital 'new money' and this benefits everybody who lives in the town of Dartmouth.
My comments were structured as a series of questions to try to encourage those who are concerned with trade in Dartmouth to think of new and additional ways to increase our town's gross domestic profits. I made no statement as to what should or must happen.
My second reason for amazement was that I expected a deafening barrage of critical and supporting response to quite challenging concepts.
Instead, all you were able to publish was a letter that seems to have missed the fact that my points apply to locals as well as visitors who eat sandwiches sitting in their cars while admiring views across our harbour. Poor old Dartmouth.
