David Bown, who has contributed unique photographs to The Dartmouth Chronicle in the past has won the Regatta photography competition.

A spokesman for the competition said: “There were over 30 entries to the photographic competition. A number of judges who viewed the photographs and decided Mr Bown’s shot won the ‘Spirit of the Regatta’.

We did not judge for 2 and 3rd places although there were a number of other superb shots take during the week. Entries were about the same number as last year although users were able to upload images directly to the website rather than the old fashion print and post.

David, who has retired as a professional golfer, has rekindled his interest in aviation recently and was the photographer who caught the Antonov AN-30 Russian spy plane over Dartmouth.

His photographs of Spitfires from the Battle of Britain Flight and Merlin helicopters flying low over the river were taken last month from his garden above the Dart.
